The Buckville Post Office was established March 3, 1887, with Frank W. Johnson as postmaster. The following were appointed postmasters: Joseph W. Shaw—June 24, 1884; John W. Freeman—May 21, 1885; Carson S. Roberts—February 1, 1887; Henry H. Williamson—July 31, 1888; Laura Martin—July 21, 1897; Marcus V. Pool—March 23, 1903; Silas Hatmaker—March 1, 1907; Ludie M. Bradley—April 25, 1917; James M. “Roe” Bradley—September 2, 1920; Jefferson Davis Bradley—February 28, 1940. Jeff Bradley resigned January 25, 1951, and the post office became based in Avant as work on Blakely Dam progressed. Ora D. Robbins was then appointed postmaster. At the time, Buckville locals wanted some retention of the community’s name, but this proved to be a source of confusion for years, since the Buckville Post Office was then at Avant! Interestingly, the postal service “figured it wouldn’t make any difference because everybody moved out.” The Buckville Post Office at Avant continued service as a “Community Post Office” of Hot Springs for many years, with Mary Nell Robertson as postmaster.
